Gidget was a 30 minute sit com which ran from
September 1965 to April 1966 and starred Sally Field as Frances (Gidget)
the fifteen-and-a-half year old daughter of Professor Russ Lawrence, who
was a widower. The shows were based around the beach and surf at
Santa Monica where Gidget and her best friend Larue spent many
hours. Gidget had a boyfriend, Jeff, who was away at college most
of the time and a sister, Anne, who was rather over-protective.
This was Pete's first series and he appeared in
22 of the 32 episodes, playing the part of John Cooper (husband of
Gidget's sister Anne). John was a psychology student who liked to
practice on the family and was considered rather "square".
The series was based on the 1959 Gidget movie
and was later revived in 1986 as The New Gidget. The Executive
Producer was Harry Ackerman.
