The Name of the Game
| The Name of the Game was
a rotating 90-minute series featuring in turn the owner and two
employees of Howard Publications, an LA based publishing empire which
had been built up by its owner, Glenn Howard (Gene Barry). Other
stories revolved around investigative correspondent Jeff Dillon (Anthony
Franciosa), an aggressive former newsboy now working for Howard's People
Magazine, and editor Dan Farrell (Robert Stack), the senior editor of
Crime Magazine and a former FBI agent. The three men shared an
editorial assistant, the bright, ambitious and sometimes kooky Peggy
Maxwell. There were recurring roles also for three reporters Joe
Sample (played by Ben Murphy), Andy and Ross. The show ran from
September 1968 to September 1971.
Pete appeared in two episodes. The first
was The White Birch in the first season and the second was
The Savage
Eye in the third season. The Savage Eye was notable because Pete's
real-life brother, Geoff Deuel, played his brother. Ben Murphy did
not appear in either of these episodes.
